Practice
I’m a designer with a background in visual arts, working mostly in digital products and occasionally pointing telescopes in questionable directions.
My approach leans more on patience than precision. Most of the work happens slowly, bringing out what is already there rather than trying to impose something new. A bit like brushing dust off something that was never meant to be seen this clearly in the first place.
This space collects those attempts, without insisting they mean more than they do.
Path
I’ve been dividing my attention between science and art for as long as I can remember, which is a polite way of saying I never fully committed to either. That tension turned out to be useful.
I studied fine arts, focusing on painting, before moving into digital work in the early 2000s, when everything felt new and full of unnecessary possibilities. Design became the more practical direction, and eventually the main one.
In 2009 I started working with Megaupload, and later became part of the founding team at MEGA in 2012. The work there shaped a large part of my design career, particularly around systems, clarity, and the quiet constraints that make things actually usable.
Astrophotography arrived a bit later, after a visit to Mount John Observatory in Lake Tekapo, New Zealand. Seeing the night sky properly for the first time tends to rearrange priorities slightly.
I started experimenting more seriously in 2019. Slowly at first, with limited equipment and a fair amount of trial and error, then gradually building experience, access, and a better understanding of what not to do.
What interests me most is not just the objects themselves, but the process of translating something distant, faint, and often invisible into an image that still feels honest. There’s a balance between extracting detail and leaving things alone, and most of the work happens somewhere in that negotiation.
